AVG Internet Security 2013 Full Version

AVG Internet Security 2013 Full Version
AVG Internet Security 2013 is a capable security suite which does a generally very good job of protecting your PC from dangers, both on and offline.

At the program's core is AVG's strong antivirus engine. A little more accurate in this release, and with significantly reduced scanning times, this monitors every file you access, detecting and removing malware before it can cause any damage. And, conveniently, Whole Computer scans now look for and remove rootkits, as well: you don't have to run a separate scan to locate them.

The suite also includes a firewall, which protects you from network attacks and monitors running programs to make sure malware can't "phone home". A key improvement here is that this now works almost entirely automatically, so you're unlikely to be hassled with pop-ups and alerts any more.

The spam filter is also significantly enhanced. The last edition blocked only 55% of our test junk emails; AVG Internet Security 2013 has raised the detection rate to an impressive 88%.

And the suite also benefits from a new Windows 8-style interface. While this looks a little plain, we found it simple to use, with the various tiles delivering quick access to the program's various functions and features. An Options menu allows you to carry out just about any Internet Security Suite action in just a couple of clicks, and if you're still a little confused then a good local Help file will quickly point you in the right direction.

The news isn't all quite so good. Previously AVG Internet Security was able to add icons to results from all the main search engines, highlighting dangerous sites so that you'd know not to click their links. Now, these icons only appear when you use AVG's own Secure Search, either via the suite's browser toolbar, or by changing your browser search page. (AVG Internet Security 2013 will set this up by default during installation, but if you'd rather it leave your browser untouched then choose the Custom Installation option and you can turn the relevant options off.)

Fortunately, the suite does include other technologies to help keep you safe online. AVG's LinkScanner module vets web pages before they're displayed in the browser, for instance, and blocked a little more than half of our test malicious URLs. And if something does get downloaded then it'll be vetted by the antivirus engine, which will detect and remove most dangerous files.

And so, on balance, AVG Internet Security 2013 looks like a solid move forward. Not everyone will like the slightly plain interface, and browsing protection still needs work, but otherwise the suite is faster, more accurate and smarter than before, and it does a generally good job of keeping your PC safe from harm.

4G to affect TV reception in two million homes

Only Freeview TV and boxes are likely to be affected by 4G
Filters will be provided for Freeview televisions which experience reception problems following the roll out of 4G later this year.

Ofcom estimates that the TV viewing in up to 2.3 million British households could be affected by 4G but only 40% of them have Freeview.

Satellite receivers will not be affected, the watchdog claims.

Money from 4G auction winners will be used to fund the provision of filters for those who need them.

At the moment only mobile operator EE is able to offer customers the 4G service, which provides faster mobile internet connections.

The other operators are currently bidding for licences in an auction run by telecoms watchdog Ofcom.
Up to £180m from the auction will be used to fund the filters, a spokesperson from Ofcom said.

However, around 1% of affected Freeview households will be unable to use them and will be offered an alternative instead.

Ofcom estimates there may be fewer than 1000 homes in the UK who will not be able to access those alternatives either and will be left without television services.

A not-for-profit organisation called Digital Mobile Spectrum Limited (DMSL) has been created to tackle the problem.

"I look forward to working closely with broadcasters and mobile network operators to ensure everyone continues to be able to receive their current TV service," said newly appointed chief executive Simon Beresford-Wiley.

"DMSL plans to pre-empt the majority of potential interference issues caused by 4G at 800 MHz and existing TV services. We're focused on being able to provide anyone who may be affected with the information and equipment they'll need to ensure they continue to receive free-to-air TV."

Last month Free-view homes in South Wales had to re-tune their TVs and boxes following technical changes to a transmitter in order to make way for 4G.

Animated Wall paper Maker 3.1.3 Full Version

Animated Wall paper Maker 3.1.3 Full Version is a powerful application that allows you to turn a regular static desktop background into animated wallpaper.

Although it may all sound like a very complicated task, the program has been specifically developed to target all types of users, including rookies, so it boasts a friendly interface and intuitive features.

Even if the interface doesn't help too much in this regard, Animated Wallpaper Maker also comes with a step-by-step wizard to lend you a hand while trying to create an animated wallpaper, while also offering several example projects to demonstrate its features.

While you can work with any photo on your computer as long as it comes as a PNG, BMP, JPG or TGA file, the app offers multiple effects, such as underwater, water mirror, fire, rings on water, matrix code and glass ball.

Each effect comes with its very own set of options, so you can customize a number of parameters such as colors, reflection, amplitude, gradient, saturation, speed and others.

Plus, a separate panel lets you adjust base properties, such as count, size and speed, color properties and blending mode, as well as orientation for a better final quality.

Last but not least, you can also configure multiple slides, which means Animated Wallpaper Maker can also play the role of a wallpaper changer, with dedicated fields to configure values for fade in and fade out time.

The program runs on low resources and although we've noticed some minor slowdowns on Windows 7, there's nothing to worry about.

Overall, Animated Wallpaper Maker is quite an interesting application that does what it says with a great amount of customization features. It's easy to use, but it need some time to figure out which feature is which.

Here are some key features of " Animated Wallpaper Maker 3.1.3 - Full Keygen +Serial Key ":

US Department of Energy hack disclosed employee information

The U.S. Department of Energy said Monday that personal information about several hundred employees and contractors was stolen in a mid-January hack, but that no classified information was compromised.
The agency is working with federal law enforcement and other agencies "to promptly gather detailed information on the nature and scope of the incident and assess the potential impacts to DOE staff and contractors," according to an internal DOE letter that was circulated Friday and released by the agency on Monday.
"As individual affected employees are identified, they will be notified and offered assistance on steps they can take to protect themselves from potential identity theft," the letter said. "Once the full nature and extent of this incident is known, the department will implement a full remediation plan."
The DOE, which has a budget of more than US$20 billion, is responsible for a wide range of policies governing U.S. energy production and use, as well as overseeing the safety and reliability of the nation's nuclear weapons arsenal.
The attacks follow a wave of cyberattacks that have struck prominent corporations and governments around the world. Last week, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal said hackers infiltrated their IT systems in an apparent attempt to monitor reporting on China.
In recent years, companies including Google, RSA and Symantec have also been attacked, illustrating that even companies with high-level computer security expertise face challenges in defending their networks.
The DOE said it is "leading an aggressive effort to reduce the likelihood of these events occurring again."
The agency has a Joint Cybersecurity Coordination Center that will be "increasing monitoring across all of the department's networks and deploying specialized defense tools to protect sensitive assets."
Also studying the attack is the DOE's Cybersecurity Team, the Inspector General's office, and the Office of Health, Safety and Security, the DOE said.

Dell may be close to finalizing buyout deal

Dell reportedly is closing in on finalizing a deal to take the company private and all the speculation is shining a renewed spotlight on the PC maker, say analysts.
"The buyout speculation is helping Dell in that investors and customers are giving it a second look," said Patrick Moorhead, an analyst with Moor Insights & Strategy. "To public investors, it's the classic wanting what they can't have. And to customers, it's a sign of confidence. It's important to get a deal wrapped up in the next few weeks, though, because that positive could turn negative if it drags out too long."
Earlier Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Dell, the world's number three PC maker, is close to finalizing a $23 billion buyout of the company.
Another report from the Bloomberg news service noted that the deal, which would include four banks, would call for Michael Dell, the company's founder and CEO, to contribute equity financing of $500 million to $1 billion. The buyout reportedly is being led by Silver Lake Management LLC, though Microsoft Corp. is rumored to be also be providing some funding.
Dell, based in Round Rock, Texas, declined comment.
Robert Enderle, an analyst with The Enderle Group, said he expects the deal to be announced this week.
"The goal is to get Dell out from under a massive amount of reporting cost and tactical financial performance oversight so they can do big deals, and are free to restructure the company if they need to," Enderle said. "If Dell pulls this off, expect other firms in this segment to take a similar course so they can restructure more effectively for the changed technology market."
For the last few years, Dell, which has been public for about 25 years, has been dealing with the struggling PC market, which has been continually hammered by the sluggish economy and the burgeoning tablet market.
In the fall of 2011, Dell slipped from its number two spot in the PC market, and was surpassed by Lenovo . Dell still sits in third place, with 10.2% of worldwide market share. It's barely ahead of number four Acer Group, which has 9.5% of market share.
Going private would free Dell from Wall Street expectations and would give its CEO the flexibiity to be more competitive in pricing, make key mergers and acquisitions and take other steps that could make shareholders unhappy but could benefit the bottom line.
"A buyout would help Dell in the long run," said Moorhead. "Buyouts and privatization enable companies to make radical changes more quickly to better position themselves in the future. Instead of making decisions to better the quarter, they make decisions to improve the next three to five years.

3D Microchip Allows Information to Travel in Three Dimensions

Researchers at the University of Cambridge have created a new type of microchip that allows information to move in three dimensions, left to right, back to front and up and down.

Scientists from the University of Cambridge have created, for the first time, a new type of microchip which allows information to travel in three dimensions. Currently, microchips can only pass digital information in a very limited way – from either left to right or front to back. The research was published on, 31 January, in Nature.

Dr Reinoud Lavrijsen, an author on the paper from the University of Cambridge, said: “Today’s chips are like bungalows – everything happens on the same floor. We’ve created the stairways allowing information to pass between floors.”
Researchers believe that in the future a 3D microchip would enable additional storage capacity on chips by allowing information to be spread across several layers instead of being compacted into one layer, as is currently the case.
For the research, the Cambridge scientists used a special type of microchip called a spintronic chip which exploits the electron’s tiny magnetic moment or ‘spin’ (unlike the majority of today’s chips which use charge-based electronic technology). Spintronic chips are increasingly being used in computers, and it is widely believed that within the next few years they will become the standard memory chip.
To create the microchip, the researchers used an experimental technique called ‘sputtering’. They effectively made a club-sandwich on a silicon chip of cobalt, platinum and ruthenium atoms. The cobalt and platinum atoms store the digital information in a similar way to how a hard disk drive stores data. The ruthenium atoms act as messengers, communicating that information between neighbouring layers of cobalt and platinum. Each of the layers is only a few atoms thick.
They then used a laser technique called MOKE to probe the data content of the different layers. As they switched a magnetic field on and off they saw in the MOKE signal the data climbing layer by layer from the bottom of the chip to the top. They then confirmed the results using a different measurement method.
Professor Russell Cowburn, lead researcher of the study from the Cavendish Laboratory, the University of Cambridge’s Department of Physics, said: “Each step on our spintronic staircase is only a few atoms high. I find it amazing that by using nanotechnology not only can we build structures with such precision in the lab but also using advanced laser instruments we can actually see the data climbing this nano-staircase step by step.
“This is a great example of the power of advanced materials science. Traditionally, we would use a series of electronic transistors to move data like this. We’ve been able to achieve the same effect just by combining different basic elements such as cobalt, platinum and ruthenium. This is the 21st century way of building things – harnessing the basic power of elements and materials to give built-in functionality.”
The research was funded by the European Research Council, the Isaac Newton Trust, and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).

Huawei launches Windows phone in Africa

The customised Huawei Windows phone will only be available in Africa
Chinese telecoms giant Huawei has unveiled a bespoke Windows-run smartphone exclusively available in Africa.

The customised device is being launched today in partnership with Microsoft as part of its new 4Afrika Initiative.

This includes plans to develop cheap wireless broadband in the Rift Valley in Kenya and help local people in South Africa and Egypt develop Windows apps.
Prices for the new device have not yet been announced.
"Our aim is to be the most affordable Windows phone in Africa," Gustavo Fuchs, director of Microsoft Windows Phone division in the Middle East & Africa, told the BBC.
It will initially be rolled out in seven countries: Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Angola, Morocco and South Africa.
The phone will be marketed depending on the retail climate of those individual nations, Mr Fuchs explained.
"At first we are making the product available across the southern market.
"We're looking at the biggest channel for each country. In South Africa, it's operator-led, in other markets like Nigeria and Angola there's a mixed environment and in the Ivory Coast they are only sold at retail."
Accessibility
The phone will be connected to a customised app store including applications designed and built by Africans.
"Affordability is important but without the right local content we believe a lot of users will not see the benefit in the change from a basic feature phone to a smartphone," said Mr Fuchs.
He said the objective of the scheme was to increase the penetration of smartphones across the continent.
"If you look at current penetration compared with the US or Europe, which is around 50%, in Africa the average is very close to 10%, less in some parts."
The handset is a customised version of the Huawei Ascend W1 which was displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last month.
It has a 4in (10cm) touch screen and 5 megapixel camera. The phone can be on stand-by for up to 420 hours between charges.
"The 4Afrika Initiative should make tens of millions of smart devices available across the continent in the next couple of years," Mr Fuchs said

PDF Reader For Windows 8

Small and quick PDF reader

Most people don't expect much from their PDF reader. They want to double-click a PDF file and have it open quickly. Beyond this, some users may want to see thumbnails every page, browse the table of contents or do some basic editing such as rotation. This PDF Reader gives the user like me to do these things quickly and easily on my Windows 8 laptop.

I'd like to be able to customize the tool bars a little more, then lock them in place. This is a minor detail though. PDF Reader for Windows 8 ROCKS!
Summary
Fast, easy to use, excellent set of tools, and free. Adobe reader has met it's match, PDF Reader for Windows 8 is a very good easy to use progam. Bye Bye Adobe bloatware.
